Tithe, tenth, 10%, gross, net, Old Testament or New Testament view?

This discussion isn’t new to most church people. However, if you have just come to know Jesus as your Savior this conversation will be extremely important to you.

When you have surrendered your life to Jesus, ownership of your entire life is His. (That’s why we call Him ‘Lord’). This includes your relationships, marriage, finances, home, car, boat, plane, toys, children, etc. You and I are encouraged to make all of this available to God by living in obedience to His revealed Word (the Bible), and the leading of the Holy Spirit. These two sources will always agree and confirm each other.

At Big Bear Christian Center we ask our membership to give a tithe (10%) of their gross income as a minimal gift that lends support to the operations of the local church. This includes the staff, missions, operations, facilities and property. We have bound ourselves together with a common purpose to present Jesus to this community in ways that will cause others to receive Him as Savior. One of the ways we do that is by maintaining a place to gather for Celebrating what He is doing in our Lighthouses during the week. The facility we occupy is debt-free and also houses the Bear Valley Community Nursery School (Co-op in the Pines)

Offerings are made for various specific projects which may include a traveling guest speaker, generosity to the needy, missions, food banks and more.

Don’t get “stuck” on giving only ten percent to God’s kingdom on earth, live generously and enjoy His blessing in return!
